Increasing numbers of international students are choosing Western Australia/WA as their study destination. Western Australia is one third the size of Australia, hence, making it the largest state. It covers an astounding 2.5 million square kilometres of the continent's total landmass. However, Western Australia has a relatively small population at 1,900,000. One third of the state's income derives from the mining sector.
Perth is the capital of Western Australia, a beautiful city with a magical charm. WA is known for its coastlines and cleanliness. The state is also the proud recipient of abundant sunshine and benefits greatly from daylight savings. Perth is a unique city because of its relative isolation from the rest of Australia. In fact, did you know that some Southeast Asian cities are closer to Perth than most other Australian cities? Perth is therefore the gateway to Australia from Southeast Asia.
Western Australia is home to spectacular beaches, surfing and the world's largest shark. The shark is usually found in northern waters and can reach up to 13 meters in length. WA's beaches also provide a spectacular backdrop for riding some huge waves. For surfing enthusiasts, the best waves can be found in or near the Margaret River.
Western Australia's climate is remarkedly different from northern states such as Queensland and the Northern Territory. Dry weather in the north means that it is wet in the south. Not surprisingly, therefore, summer temperatures range from 17-29°C (63-84°F), while winter temperatures can reach 8-17°C (46-63°F).
